we thought we could smoke dmt through a bong but it failed and we felt like idiots..
we own an arizer extreme q vaporizer.. we are thinking if we add a layer of random herb at the bottom so the dmt doesn't drip through we could vaporize it.. do you think this is a good idea?

Does you vaporizer use direct heat or heating air with a mini fan to vaporize?

if you go to their website you'll see why, it's portable, lasts forever if you clean it right, and provides no loss of product.
it still uses good ole' convection and airflow, but with your lungs and a lighter instead of the all-in-one of aspect of vaporizers.
also, if you're going to spend that type of money do the storz+bickel volcano. it's the best vaporizer for herb, and always has been.
the vaporizer you have is actually really good, and so are a lot of them out there....vapir and iolites....
it's not necessarily 'better' than a 200 dollar vaporizer you have, but for something finely grained like DMT, i'd want more control and precision.
for example i would never have smoked fent out of a traditional vaporizer. that would have fucking killed me. lool

I would think that an automatic vaporizer (push button/self ignition) would get too hot. These are generally designed to vaporize cannabis. The melting point of freebase D is significantly lower. I've tried a lot of methods and I've found that a homemade DMT machine is the way to go. It is a smoother and cleaner smoke than anything else I've tried. Plus, you get monster hits. I too have the Arizer Extreme Q but i decided not to use it for smoking DMT because i read online that DMT leaves a nasty smell in ur vaporizer (dont wanna ruin my vaporizer now do i ?)
I use my faithful glass pipe to do it, put some ash in the bowl, put in my DMT and cover it in a layer of MJ. I then burn my weed (very slowly), which then heats the DMT. This method seems to work fine..

dmt machine sounds awesome. the vaporization point for cannabis varies.
THC's boiling point is 200C, but vapors from the plant's "active ingredients" can form as low as 126C.
Also, that smoke begins to form at 182C+ before THC's boiling point, but the "bad smoke" starts to form at 315C+.
from an official study on vapes with cannabis, note that DMT is SIGNIFICANTLY lower as dimitri says, which is why you need acute control...(get an ubie) :
"Vaporizers are smoking apparati that heat cannabis to 185°C
(365°F), which vaporizes THC but is below the ignition point of combustible
plant material. Vaporized cannabis emits a thin gray vapor, whereas combusted
cannabis produces a thick smoke. Thus, vaporizers deliver a better cannabinoid-
to-tar ratio than cigarettes or water pipes (Gieringer 1996). In a recent
study, traces of THC were vaporized at temperatures as low as 140°C (284°F)
and the majority of THC vaporized by 185°C (365°F); benzene and other carcinogenic
vapors did not appear until 200°C (392°F), and cannabis combustion
occurred around 230°C (446°F)". ~ (Gieringer 2001).
another awesome vaporizer i'd suggest for controlled temp is the Launch Box. I'd carry that as well as the ubie but it's too much money.

Sorry for going OT BUT the launch box is not 'shitty'. If you haven't spent the time to get over the learning curve, don't judge it. I've had that thing since near the beginning and it's awesome for what it is. A vape you can use literally ANYWHERE, just gotta make sure you don't have crappy batteries/charger. They also came out with the AC power adapter and that surpasses using the batteries in every way. You can also order the car dc adapter and that's pretty much all you need.
BUT the launch box isn't comparable to how much vapor you can get using full desktop units, such as the extreme q, ssv, or da buddha. I have the extreme q and am EXTREMELY satisfied with it, there's just a tiny mod you need to do for the bowl.
Still waiting on my dmt that I ordered last week, expecting it today. Excited ;).

the launch box is not shitty at all.
we've been smoking things without vaporizers for years. simple convection should not cost you 200$ is my point. do you REALLY need display
and a remote control? the vape market is a bit out of hand, but it is inventive.
expensive vaporizers are great for herb and and that's it. i would never put any polm, hash, kief, shivacrystals, or any base of any kind in one.
what is the purpose of a vaporizer that is too large to control for very expensive, very minute amounts of potent and / or dangerous bases? nothing.
use a flame and watch. its' the same thing, just more work for your brain. heat sensors aren't necessary if you know what vaporization points are and
can watch your product vaporize....common sense to stop heating it is what you do.
and please, don't cut on the Ubie unless you have tried one. it's not a 10 dollar piece of glass. it's a patent.
